You have awakened young minds

And shown them how to make art.

Taught them to creatively write, or

How to accurately calculate.

Thoughtfully guided them to collaborate

On projects that made history real to them.

Problem solving was your special gift

For each child that will keep giving.

Those who educate children well are more to be honored than parents, for these only gave life, those the art of living well.”- Aristotle

Your life has been dedicated to

The great task of people building.

Instead of disorganized strangers

You guided them to learn empathy.

Some were awkward and needed

Encouragement and an adult to emulate.

Your skills lit a path for understanding,

Positive attitudes, and acceptance.

“Nine-tenths of education is encouragement.”-Anatole France

When parents failed to help some children

Your guidance provided a role model.

Encouraging students to freely explore

Allowed them to use their imagination.

“We cannot hold a torch to light another’s path without brightening our own.” –Ben Sweetland

When you look back on teaching

Those bright faces who returned to

Thank you for being their favorite

Teacher, will blaze in your memory.

Now is the time to wander the world

And do the things you want with a passion.

It’s time for joy in your new freedom as

A loving person who gave her heart to teaching.

“The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called “truth.”-Dan Rather
